What does the digital smile design program include?
The app searches the photo for the smile design references and leaves the editing to you. Measurements are the widths visible from the front in the photo; they are for checking proportions.
Automatic lip boundary, pupils and facial midline
The editor automatically searches for the inner edge of the lips; in a photo where the face is visible, it also finds the pupils and the facial midline. The teeth are placed according to these references: the central incisor width comes from the scale, the number of teeth from the mouth width.
Golden ratio, buccal corridor, smile arc and gingival line
Proportions and curves appear as lines on the canvas. The interpupillary distance or a ruler is used for scale; the measurement table shows the width and length values.
Tooth libraries built from real tooth photographs
The shape and texture of the teeth come from the library; their proportion, position and shade come from your design. The libraries are prepared by the platform administration; patient files uploaded to cases and orders are not used as library sources.
Shade and light matching, single-tooth adjustment
When you select one of the patient’s own teeth as a reference, the design’s shade is adjusted to the light in the photo. You can change the length, width and inclination of a single tooth individually.
Lower teeth and drawn templates
If needed, you also design the lower teeth; the lower teeth are drawn behind the upper teeth. Drawn templates apply shape, proportion and surface character together; when working with drawings, you choose the tooth shape separately, from options such as oval, square or triangular.
Before/after presentation image
A presentation image is prepared when you save. In a photo where the face is visible, when the person can be separated from the background, the background is darkened and the focus stays on the face and smile; this separation is also done in your browser.
Automatic detection and placement are a starting point. The app asks you to check the points it finds; you can manually correct the lip boundary, the pupils, the midline and each tooth.
From photo to presentation: how a smile case progresses
Upload the photo
Open the case and upload your patient’s smile, facial or retractor photo. With every upload, you declare with a checkbox that you have informed your patient and obtained their consent.
Reference search
The editor searches for the references and places the teeth according to the mouth width. You check each point found and correct it by dragging if needed; you place any point that is not found manually.
Edit and measure
Choose a library and shape, adjust the teeth one by one, match the shade to the light in the photo. Check the proportions with the ruler and the measurement table; every save is stored as a new version.
Share or send for approval
Show the presentation image to your patient via a time-limited link, or send the case to the designer pool for an expert-approved version.
Smile design is a visual simulation; it does not guarantee a treatment outcome. Lip support, vertical dimension and phonetics are not part of the simulation; especially in edentulous cases, verify the result with an intraoral mock-up.
Sharing with the patient, designer support and expert approval
Every version, decision and share is recorded in the case history.
A 7-, 30- or 90-day link for the patient
You share your own draft or the version approved by the expert via a time-limited link. The patient does not create an account; they compare the before and after views with a slider. The patient label and your notes are not shown in the link; you can close the link at any time.
Designer support and expert approval
You do not have to create the design yourself. You can send the case to the designer pool; the dental designer who takes on the job sends the version they prepare to the expert, and the expert approves it or requests a revision. The designer’s unapproved interim version cannot be shared with your patient.
Comments and ZIP download
The parties to the case write their comments in the case history. You can download all photos and version images as a single ZIP file.
Online smile design: no installation, a browser is enough
The Smile Design App is not included in the DentMesher Android app; on your phone, too, it opens in the browser. The interface is available in Turkish, English, German and French.

- When taking the photo, the camera should be at lip level and straight in front, and the face should be upright
Patient photos: data controller, consent and retention period
Photos used in smile design show the patient’s face and may contain health data. The data controller for these photos is the clinic that uploads them; DentMesher processes them on the clinic’s behalf.
- With every photo upload, the clinic’s declaration that the patient has been informed and has given consent is recorded
- Location and device data (EXIF) in the photos are removed on upload
- Facial landmark detection runs in the browser; the photo is not sent to a third-party service.
- The case is permanently deleted 30 days after the last action; if the patient has an open link on that date, when that link expires
- You can delete the case at any time; a deleted case cannot be restored
The case screen shows the deletion date; download any images you want to keep before that date.
Digital dental design and laboratory connection in the same account
The Smile Design App is part of the DentMesher platform. With the same clinic account, you can also order digital dental designs for your crown, bridge, inlay/onlay or implant-supported work; these designs are checked by an independent expert dentist before they are presented to the clinic.
For the production of your approved dental design orders, you can connect with laboratories that use DENTMESHER HUB. Smile cases are also opened to dental designers through the pool on DentMesher.

Frequently asked questions
Does the smile design app need to be installed, and which devices does it run on?
No installation is required. Smile Design App runs in an up-to-date web browser; you open it from a computer, tablet or phone browser with your DentMesher clinic account. The app is not included in the DentMesher Android app.
What kind of photo do I need for online smile design?
You upload a frontal smile, face or retractor photo; JPEG, PNG and WEBP are accepted. The pupils and facial midline are detected automatically only in a photo where the face is visible; in a close-up of the mouth, you place them manually.
Can I correct the automatic detection if it is wrong?
Yes. You correct each detected point by dragging it; if the lip boundary cannot be found, you draw the inner edge manually. Automatic tooth placement is also only a starting point; you adjust each tooth individually.
How do designer support and expert approval work?
You can prepare the design yourself or send the case to the designer pool. The dental designer who takes on the job sends the version they prepared to the expert; the expert approves it or requests a revision. The designer’s unapproved interim version cannot be shared with your patient. After approval, you can also request a revision.
How do I share the smile design with my patient?
From the case page, you create a viewing link valid for 7, 30 or 90 days. The patient does not open an account; they compare the before and after views with a slider and can download the images. The patient label and your notes are not shown in the link; you can close the link at any time.
How is patient consent recorded?
Consent is obtained by the clinic; the clinic is also the data controller for smile photos. With every photo upload, you declare via a checkbox that you have informed your patient and obtained their consent; the upload is not accepted unless the box is ticked, and the declaration is stored in the photo’s record.
Where are patient photos stored, and when are they deleted?
Photos are stored on DentMesher together with the case; location and device information (EXIF) is removed on upload. The case is permanently deleted 30 days after the last activity; if a link open to the patient exists on that date, deletion takes place when the link expires. A deleted case cannot be restored; download any images you want to keep beforehand.
Does digital smile design software show the treatment outcome?
No. Smile design is a visual simulation; it does not guarantee a treatment outcome. The page the patient opens also states that the image is a simulation and that the actual result may differ.
